Retail sales of motorized RVs in 2008 and so far this year weren't quite as bad as initially reported.

Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) announced Wednesday (June 3) it has adjusted upward some of its year-end data to reflect the sale of 1,162 additional motorhomes and 2009 data to reflect 249 additional motorhome sales.

This adjusts the total to 28,900 motorhomes sold in 2008.

The year-to-date sales for 2009 have been revised upward and will be reflected in the April sales report, SSI indicated.

"The states have been delayed in processing their data due to state budget problems," the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based firm reported in explaining the initial counting shortfall. "They cut their staff hours for budget purposes. We received a master file update from the state of California.  This update covered the period of 2008 and year-to-date 2009.  In addition to the state of California update there were chassis that had been added to the file.

These sales were added to the month that the sale took place and are reflected in the year-to-date numbers.

The reporting firm advised its clients to destroy their original 2008 year-end summary report
